Portage Winter Blast Half Marathon

Portage Winter Blast Half Marathon / Running Race -Half Marathon / 3rd place Overall  / Michigan, USA

A very cold day, the temperature below freezing, I felt very sore due to the strength training that we had started in winter. I took this event as training and it was hard to do the event and it was a challenge due to my soreness. I gained confidence and a different perspective of what its like to achieve a good performance when I focus on enjoying the event regardless of how comfortable I felt.

I had worked this event as a volunteer since 2013 and this year is only the second year that I have done it as an athlete. I really think it’s easier to participate as an athlete then being a volunteer especially due to the cold temperatures. I remember that in 2014 my fingers froze after 4 hours in -10 degrees with snow and ice and wind. Michigan style…thank you to all the volunteers for what they do!
